Wishing Well by Mr-McChibi Wishing Well by Mr-McChibi
Here's another shot for 2013! My friend Jim and I just got back from Death Valley- The trip there took quite some time from bad directions from the GPS but that didn't stop us from not adventuring on Saturday.

This shot is from Dantes View of Death Valley, California, at about 5500 feet up. We were in search of the Milky Way but the half moon blinded our view of it but painting the desert landscape of blue and speckled stars. I hope you enjoy this shot as it was shot with a new Rokinon F2.8 lens of 14 mm of 25 seconds at ISO 400.

Beautiful piece which captivates with its simplicity and tranquil look. You could almost hear the silence.

On the technical side, my rating is positive. The landscape, I'll start with, is well defined and focused, abundant in detail despite the low lighting. There is almost no color which emphasizes on the uniformity of desert sceneries.
The composition is well balanced as well, it puts the main focus in the sky. A good impression leaves the clarity of the stars - almost no motion blur from the Earth's rotation is visible. There is noise in the darker areas but this is normal in night photography and can be partially coped with by lower resolution of the image. Plus, the noise is pretty much monochromatic which makes it less irritant.
The colors are excellent - very deep, purely blue, with a smooth pleasant gradient from nearly black to light blue which gives excellent contrast to the horizon. These colors create a cosmic, timeless sensation, which, I suppose, was the artist's main purpose.

What this piece really needs is some object in the foreground to focus the attention and oppose the starry sky. A closer look at a bush or a stone would do well. Even better would be some curve in the land to "lead the eye" gradually towards the sky. (Like the lowering between the two hills in the middle, but it's just too subtle - it needs a more central place in the landscape part of the picture.)

As a whole, the piece is good. There is a silent harmony in it - the feeling of a sleeping land underneath a stargazer's sky.

I really like this picture. It's simple, yet effective. I also like how the stars stand out in the picture. Awesome job! I wouldn't really change anything about this picture to be honest haha. Maybe have more stars in the picture? I dunno xD

Anyways again good job! I really hope to see more pictures of the night sky with the stars popping out as much as they do in this picture. Maybe some stars in the city? Who knows.

Also what kind of camera did you use? The quality is really clear and I don't see any blurry edges which to me makes the picture even better.
